§ 5-4. Design standards.

  • The following design standards shall be considered minimum requirements and shall specifically apply to residential subdivisions. The requirements for non-residential subdivisions (see section 9-4) shall be such as the Planning Commission deems appropriate for the type of development and use contemplated but in no event be less than the requirements of residential subdivisions.

    5-4-1  Right-of-way widths. Minimum street right-of-way widths shall be not less than the following:

    Expressway 200 - 300 feet
    Arterials 80 - 200 feet
    Collectors 60 - 80 feet
    Minor Street 50 feet
    Alley 20 feet

     

    5-4-2  Pavement widths. Pavement width from face of curb to face of curb shall be not less than the following:

    Expressway varies; 12 per lane, 8-10' shoulders, 8-10' median
    Arterials varies; 12' per lane, 8-10' shoulders, 8-30' median
    Collectors 44' (2-12' traffic lanes; 2-10' parallel parking lanes)
    Minor Street 36' where parking is permitted, 24' without parking
    Alley 16 feet

     

    5-4-3  Street grades. Street grades shall not exceed the following unless otherwise approved by the City Engineer and approved by the Planning Commission. Minimum grades of any roadway shall not be less than one-half percent.

    Expressway 6%
    Arterials 8%
    Collectors 12%
    Minor Street 15%

     

    5-4-4  Horizontal curves. Where a centerline deflection angle occurs, a circular curve shall be introduced, having a centerline radius of not less than the following:

    Collectors 200 feet
    Minor Street 100 feet

     

    5-4-5  Tangents. Tangents between reverse curves shall be a minimum of 100 feet in length.

    5-4-6  Centerline offsets. The minimum distance between centerline offsets at street jogs shall be 125 feet.
