§ 2-2. Election districts.

  • (a)

    The city single member council districts shall be the areas within the city which are enclosed by the following described lines, which are described as being streets, roadways, railroads or alleys shall be the centerline of such streets, roadways, railroads or alleys, said districts being described in attached exhibits which are the maps adopted on November 12, 1991, by area as per redistricting S-0-1 plan.

    Municipal elections shall be conducted at the following voting places:

    District 1: Atmore Public Library
    700 East Church Street
    Atmore, AL 36502
    District 2: Atmore City Hall
    201 East Louisville Avenue
    Atmore, AL 36502
    District 3: Senior Citizens Building
    1107 North Main Street
    Atmore, AL 36502
    District 4: Atmore City Hall
    Council Chambers
    201 East Louisville Avenue
    Atmore, AL 36502
    District 5: Escambia County Work Shop
    351 Jack Springs Road
    Atmore, AL 36502

     

    At the municipal election in 1992 and every four years thereafter, the qualified electors in each of said described districts in the city who are entitled to participate in such elections, shall elect one councilmember to the council for that district. Each councilmember so elected must be a bona fide elector of and must actually reside in the district of his qualification and election. Each such councilmember shall hold office for a period of four years and until his successor shall be elected and qualified or until such member shall resign, die, move his residence outside said district or otherwise be removed from office.

    (b)

    This law shall not affect the duties, rights, and tenure of the office of the members of the present city council who shall continue to hold and discharge the duties of said office as is now incumbent upon them or as may be hereafter made incumbent upon them by law, until their successors shall be elected and qualified under this law.
